PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Premature babies are at risk for developmental delays even after leaving the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, or NICU.
A Developmental Follow-up Clinic at Gulf Coast Regional Medical Center is helping these children as they mature.
The clinic utilizes physical, speech, and occupational therapists to evaluate the babies once they are released from the NICU. It's a way to monitor their progress.
This program has now expanded to include any child, not just preemies, whose parent has a concern about a delay. All it takes is a recommendation from a physician, and the child can come through the Developmental Follow-up Clinic for an evaluation.
