It's American Heart Month and doctors are getting the word out about the dangers of cardiovascular disease. Heart disease is the number one killer of both men and women.
Recognizing the symptoms of heart disease, such as arm or chest pain and shortness of breath, is important. It's also important to practice prevention.
Cardiologist Dr. Don Davis says there are simple steps you can take to be healthier. He recommends a low carbohydrate diet and exercise.
"It's not a ton of exercise. Walking every single day can do worlds of benefit for you from a cardiovascular standpoint," explained Dr. Davis.
He will be speaking at a luncheon focused on a heart-healthy diet on February 14th. The Her Heart Luncheon will take place at the Palms Conference Center from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. To register, call 850-747-3600.
