PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Gulf Coast Regional Medical Center is one of about a thousand hospitals across the nation recognized by Florida Blue as a Blue Distinction Center for Maternity Care. It's a program that evaluates hospitals on quality measures for delivery.
Marla Peak, Vice President of Women's and Children's Services, says the hospital's level 3 NICU and specially trained nurses help them deliver quality care.
"They take a lot of classes and training and have certifications to be able to care for high risk and also the normal delivery," explained Peak.
Part of that training is taking part in quarterly drills that mimic high risk situations so medical staff will know how to respond.
Peak says Gulf Coast Regional Medical Center delivers more than 2,400 babies a year.
