PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - A paraprofessional from Merritt Brown Middle School in Panama City has been named the 2019 Florida School-Related Employee of the Year.
Beth Lucas, who works with students who have autism, made a huge impact on students after Hurricane Michael hit our area. She helped Merritt Brown students, who were temporarily placed at Mosley High School, with entirely new routines and class schedules.
School officials say while Lucas' home was heavily damaged, she still persevered and and worked hard on hurricane relief for her colleagues and families of the students with autism.
Bay District Schools officials say Lucas gives her peers hope for the future, despite all they have suffered.
