MEXICO BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - As drivers make their way down U.S. Highway 98 through Mexico Beach, they'll notice a line of waterfront homes.
Homeowners and renters must make preparations ahead of Hurricane Michael.
Realtors also help make sure homes are secure.
According to the city, Mexico Beach is under a mandatory evacuation beginning at 6 a.m. Tuesday.
As the owner and broker of one Mexico Beach realty told us, storm preparation is a busy time.
"It's very chaotic. Just today what we're doing is getting the owners to tell us what they want done. We have to bring the porch furniture in on all of them and then some of them want the windows boarded up, the sliding glass doors," Cathey Parker Hobbs, the Broker/Owner of Parker Realty of Mexico Beach, said.
We spoke to a couple boarding up their vacation home Monday afternoon.
"We drove down this morning [Monday] so we can get that done today, hopefully. We're planning to just drive back tonight in the middle of the night so that we're not in the traffic tomorrow," Susan Ray of Georgia said.
Residents can pick up empty sandbags inside City Hall and bring them to the boat ramp on the west end of town.
People who need help filling the bags can find help at the ramp.
