PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Bay District School Board members are advertising changes to the school board policy.

Of the four proposed changes, one was to the number of emergency evacuation drills held in a school year.

The board would add in more fire drills, more hostage situation drills, hazardous chemical drills, and severe weather drills; totaling 22 drills in a school year.

School board officials say they're following with the state statutes.

School Board Chairman Steve Moss said, "Is it overkill? You could argue it is, but state statute is very clear on what we're supposed to do. Not only our district but every district in regards to following the law in regards to following those drills."

Tuesday was the first time the change was advertised and school board officials say they will revisit the changes in 30 days with public input.
