DEFUNIAK SPRINGS, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - A woman is facing charges after police said she left her child in a hot car.
DeFuniak Springs Police responded to a retail store parking lot Sunday night after reports of a child locked in a car with the windows rolled up and not turned on.
When police got there, they say firefighters from Walton Fire Rescue were trying to get to the child.
They say the five-year-old was found in the back seat and was sweating profusely. Police say the child was treated for heat exhaustion.
Police said during the investigation, the mother, who is 19, walked up on emergency personnel. Police said the mother told them the child refused to go inside and wanted to stay in the car.
The mother was arrested on a child neglect charge.
