SOUTHPORT, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Plans for a new sports complex in northern Bay County are moving forward.
Negotiations are underway and the design phase will soon begin for the new Southport Sports Complex. (WJHG/WECP)
The park will be located off of Highway 77, about 100 yards north of County Road 2300.
The county will officially begin negotiating a contract with builders and start the design phase soon.
Bay County Commissioner Keith Baker says the project may service all ages in baseball and could include vertical fields for sports like soccer.
And although the Panama City Beach Sports Complex was just completed, this new one in Southport would offer a different purpose.
Commissioner Keith Baker said, "really it's quality of life, you know. Again, the economy- when you look at it in those terms- we look at the sports complex on the beach... that is certainly an economy booster. This one is more to service, again, our people and just meet the need that is coming."
There's no exact timeline yet on when construction will begin.
