SOUTH WALTON, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - A South Walton proposal designed to help first responders have access to gated communities during an emergency is now a new law.
When responding to an emergency, every moment counts and that's why South Walton Fire District pushed to get the Knox key switch approved.
The key switch is a universal key that gives first responders quick and easy access to any neighborhood in their district.
"The beauty of this ordinance the key switch is only $100. It's way less expensive than some of your other access activation modes such as siren activation or key switches, it's a lot less expensive. It's easier to install," SWFD Fire Marshal, Sammy Sanchez said.
The ordinance as passed on November 13th by the fire board and communities have six months to comply.
