New regional beach access opens in South Walton
For the first time in ten years, a new regional beach access is open in Walton County.
Tuesday TDC and county officials cut the ribbon on the new Dune Allen Regional Beach Access.
The property was bought three years ago.
Beach ambassadors say it's important to have more public beach access points.
"With all of our issues surrounding customary use, we have been squeezed onto smaller sections of the beach, and this is the first new beach access we've had in a significant number of years, and it is an asset, we needed more beach for our locals and tourists to come to,” said Laurie Reichenbach, Beach Ambassador.
TDC executive director Jay Tusa says this is important because of all the visitors that come to South Walton.
"With the visitors and locals that are coming to the beach, it's important that we have adequate access, and so adding this beach access here today is part of that equation,” said Tusa.
Tusa says more regional beach access points will open within the next two years... Including one in Miramar Beach and one in Seagrove.
