WALTON COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - This skate park at Helen McCall Park in Walton County will be around 10,000 square feet when finished, costing the county about $500,000.

The new skate park is one way the county is responding to the growth of South Walton, according to project manager Louis Svehla. (WJHG/WECP)

"The first phase is right around $300,000, and the second phase is about another $200,000," said Project Manager Louis Svehla.

This is one way the county is responding to the growth of South Walton, according to Svehla.

"We're a very fast growing county, there are a lot of families moving in, a lot of kids, and even a lot of retirees and park space is important," said Svehla, adding that everyone will be able to use the skate park. "What's cool about a skate park is that a lot of people think there's going to be a lot of skateboarders down here but this is really designed for anything on wheels, whether it's little scooters, BMX bikes."

Construction has not started yet on the skate park, but soccer and football fields have been added to Helen McCall Park in the last couple of years.

The goal is to have construction start by Spring 2020.
