A new scam is seeking to target individuals by claiming to be from the Social Security Administration.

The scam involves the scammer claiming to have found fraudulent activity involving your social security number, and asks for your name and social security number as confirmation of your identity.

The Social Security Administration will never ask for personal information over the phone, and the Bay County Sheriff's Office says one way to protect yourself is to ask for a call back number, as scammers don't provide them.
