Okaloosa County murderer to stay on death row

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - An Okaloosa County man who killed his family will stay on death row.

Edward Zakrzewski II used a machete and a crowbar to kill his wife, his five-year-old daughter, and his seven-year-old son at the family's home in Mary Esther in 1994. The murders came as the couple was on the verge of a divorce.

The killer escaped to Hawaii, but four months later the Unsolved Mysteries show featured his case, and that led to his surrender.

Zakrzewski has three death sentences for the crime.

Thursday the Florida Supreme Court released an opinion denying Zakrzewski's motion to not be put to death meaning he will stay on death row.
