BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Monday marked the end of one era and the beginning of a new one for Bay High School.
While students are out of school on spring break, construction crews are tearing down the old Bay High cafeteria. Officials say the building dates back to the 1960's and hasn't been used as a cafeteria for almost 20 years.
People who came to watch the demolition say it's bittersweet.
"We've watched a lot of great things happen in this cafeteria, a lot of good people come and go through the cafeteria," said Assistant Principal Kris Pelfry. "It's the end of it's season and now we're ready for a new season and a different beginning with a new building and new technology and something that looks forward to the next century."
The plans are to replace the old cafeteria with a new STEM building full the latest technology.
If you'd like a memento of the old building, they are selling the bricks to help raise money for the school.
