PCB to upgrade water utilities along Thomas Drive ahead of Bay County repaving project
The Panama City Beach city council awarded a contract for the repair and realignment of water lines along Thomas Drive and Beach Drive.
Gulf Coast Utility Contractors was awarded the$2 million contract as part of the resurfacing project that Bay County has been working on for the past two years.
Bay County asked the city to relocate some of its existing utilities that were in conflict with their storm sewer system and make improvements to the existing city piping prior to the resurfacing portion of the project.
This is also an opportunity for the city to install some additional piping interconnections and replace portions of existing marginal utilities.
"Once we've completed that we'll fill all that old pipe and then Bay County will go in and resurface Thomas Drive," Panama City Beach City Manager Mario Gisbert said, "so this is a project Bay County has had in the works for a good long while."
Once the utility project starts it is expected to be completed within 135 days.
