PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Instagram, Tik-Tok and other online social media apps and sites can be fun for children and teenagers but they can also be dangerous place filled with online predators.

Tuesday, Panama City Beach Police Officers warned parents about the dangers of social media during the Parents Against Predators Workshop at Breakfast Point Academy.

Parents learned how their kids used social media apps, meet people online and how online predators find them.

"We don't want you guys to be paranoid we want you guys to be prepared. You need to understand what your kids are doing online and giving them unlimited and unrestricted access to the internet, you're essentially setting them up for failure,” Panama City Beach Police Lieutenant J.R. Talamantez said.

Parents also learned about parental controls and other safety measures to monitor and hopefully protect their kids while they are online.
