PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - The Panama City Beach Sports Park project is halfway complete; that's according to President of Anchor CEI, Elizabeth Moore.
The over $30 million project will include nine artificial turf and four natural grass multipurpose fields. There are 38 events already planned for the Sports Park, which is set to open July 5th.
Underground utilities and artificial turf are currently being installed. This is all thanks to the minimal challenges incurred by Hurricane Michael.
"The site actually fared very well during the storm. We did get a lot of rain on the site which has slowed progress a little bit, but overall the storm had a minimal impact and we're still expecting to open in time for the first event," said Moore.
As for who's footing the multi-million dollar bill, Moore says the park is being paid for through bed tax funds.
