UPDATE: BCSO says suspected shooter is dead

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - UPDATE 05/22/2018 5:15 p.m.

In a press conference Tuesday afternoon, Bay County Sheriff Tommy Ford confirmed suspected shooter, Kevin Holroyd, is dead.

Bay County Sheriff's Officials say Kevin Holroyd is "down."

UPDATE: May 22, 2018 (3:30 p.m.) --

According to the Bay County Sheriff's Office, they received a call just before Noon Tuesday about shots being fired in the area of 23rd Street and Beck Avenue.

Deputies responded to Briarwood Apartments. We're told upon arrival, deputies were fired upon.

BCSO officials say they're looking for 49-year-old Kevin Robert Holroyd. Deputies tell us he's wanted in connection with a homicide investigation in Walton County.

Bay County Sheriff's officials say they've gathered all of their resources and are working with Panama City police to apprehend Holroyd.

Deputies believe the suspect is inside one of the apartments. A spokeswoman for the BCSO says they were able to break down the door of the apartment, however, Holroyd had barricaded the door from the inside so deputies are attempting additional procedures to gain access into the apartment.

At this time, deputies aren't sure if any other people are in the apartment with the suspect.

No additional information is available on the number of shots fired this afternoon or if anyone is injured.

UPDATE: May 22, 2018 (1:21 p.m.)

According to Chief Investigator Jimmy Stanford with the Bay County Sheriff's Office, law enforcement is looking for a male suspect.

We're told deputies are also attempting to get residents in the area of the active shooter out.

Deputies say no injuries can be confirmed at this time.

As soon as the scene is safe, law enforcement officials will provide us with an update.

Chief Investigator Stanford has confirmed the male suspect they're looking for is the same suspect involved in a suspicious death on White Heron Drive in Santa Rosa Beach.
Panama City police say there is an active shooter situation on Beck Avenue.

Police say avoid the area of the 2300 block of Beck Avenue until further notice.

Multiple agencies are responding to the situation, including the Walton County Sheriff's Office and Sheriff Michael Adkinson.

Witnesses tell us they've heard more than 50 gunshots in the area.

According to a Facebook post from Bay District Schools both St. Andrew School and Lucille Moore Elementary have been placed on lockdown. We're told all students are safe and law enforcement officers are on both campuses.
