PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Locals in Panama City won't see as big of a tourist crowd as usual in the next couple of months.
There are around 850 to 900 active hotel rooms in Panama City. (WJHG/WECP)
Monday we spoke to Destination Panama City officials who tell us the upcoming season might be a little slow to due all of the destruction from Hurricane Michael.
About 68% of hotels in Panama City are actually open but many are not at their full capacity, as some are opening in increments.
"So right now we have between 850 and 900 active hotel rooms. Pre-storm we were at about 2,000. That doesn't take into consideration the AirBnBs, which many of those have already come back," said President and CEO of Destination Panama City, Jennifer Vigil.
Destination Panama City officials say the St. Joe company is working with city officials to try and bring a waterfront lodging experience to the area.
