Panama City officials will build a new playground at Oakland Terrace Park, which will be the only one of its kind in the state.

The city began removing the old playground Monday. Officials say the playground was built in the 90s and has worn down over time. They say the new playground will feature five 30-foot towers with different obstacles for kids to enjoy.

“The deck that the kids walk across is probably 20 feet tall. The kids will go up in a tower and will do various obstacles when they're on it,” said Panama City Quality of Life Senior Manager Ty Farris.

Officials say the project will cost about $400,000 and will include a zipline, merry-go round and renovated toddler playground.

They say they'll receive the park equipment by February 26th and they're hoping to have it installed in eight weeks.
