Calhoun County Sheriff's Deputies say they received a call about an attempted armed robbery at Poplar Head Baptist Church.

Deputies say when they arrived, they found the pastor of the church. The pastor told deputies he was in the church preparing for service when a man entered the church with a revolver.

The pastor reported the man pointed the gun at him and demanded money.

Deputies were told the man eventually ran away when the pastor showed his semiautomatic pistol.

The suspect was described as a dark complexion white man with long hair to his shoulders and facial hair.

K9 teams assisted in searching for the suspect but he was not found.

There are no known suspects or persons of interest in the case yet. Deputies say more information will be released after the investigation.
