PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - While the future of phase two of the Panama City Beach Sports Complex remains uncertain, the Bay County Commissioners put support behind a $26 million request for Triumph Gulf Coast to assist in funding the project.
Phase two would include an indoor sports center that would also act as a command center and post-disaster shelter for survivors and out-of-town emergency response personnel, instead of using schools like during Hurricane Michael.
Commissioner Philip "Griff" Griffitts said construction will not begin on the facility without the Triumph and FEMA funds, which the county has also requested.
