Pray for Bay event provides night of hope and healing for residents

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Members of the community gathered to spread words of hope and encouragement Wednesday night, six months after Hurricane Michael.

Rebuild Bay County held their Pray for Bay event at Joe and Jeannette field at Tommy Oliver stadium.

Organizers say they wanted the event to inspire hope for Bay County’s future.

The evening featured food trucks, live music, as well as spiritual leaders of all faiths to help the healing process and look to the future.

Ann Wing, of Big Bend Community Based Care said, "Part of recovery and healing is to know that hope is possible and recovery is possible and we're hoping through this event and the messages relayed tonight that folks will take away from that that recovery is possible for us."

Bay County Sheriff Tommy Ford added, "Although we've overcome a lot, we've made a lot of progress over six months, we've still got a long way to go. There are a lot of people that are still out there hurting and we really need to remember them and celebrate this community."

Rebuild Bay County also received a $40,000 check from Panama City Toyota.
