Wednesday President Donald Trump announced he will fulfill Governor Ron DeSantis' request for more federal cost share help.

On Good Friday, Governor DeSantis said he mailed a letter to the President after NOAA announced Hurricane Michael was upgraded to a Category 5. In the letter, Governor DeSantis wrote, "Dear Mr. President: I write to request your approval to increase the Federal cost share from 75% to 90% for Hurricane Michael eligible costs of permanent work under section 406 and emergency work under section 403 and 407 of the Robert T Stafford Disaster Relief Act."

Governor DeSantis shared the news with local leaders on the ground. To hear the governor's request will be granted was a welcome relief to local leaders.

"Well, when he spoke to me he asked about Mexico Beach and that he was talking on the phone. I didn't know he was talking to the President, but then he promptly after he stepped into our group he announced that the President agreed to the 90/10 and he was all smiles and of course we were too," Mexico Beach Mayor Al Cathey said.

Before his rally in Panama City Beach Wednesday night, President Trump reportedly told Governor DeSantis he approved the request.
