PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - The phrase "not all heroes wear capes" proved to be true at an award ceremony on Thursday morning.

The Quality Parenting Initiative held a ceremony honoring local families and organizations on their work toward foster care awareness.

At the event, they awarded three "Hometown Hero" awards and one of the recipients was our very own, NewsChannel 7 team.

"WJHG has just done an awesome job at helping us to raise awareness regarding the need for quality foster homes in our community. There's a huge shortage of homes and they have done an outstanding job in helping us spread our message," said Kasey Killebrew,a Recruitment Specialist with Life Mangement.

Other recipients included several local foster families and a local attorney.

Killebrew nominated WJHG with the award in honor of our continuing coverage regarding the importance of foster care.

We're glad our coverage reached the right families and we hope to continue making a difference in the lives of children in need.
