Ramsgate beach access renovations on pause

WALTON COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Many beach access points in South Walton are getting what county officials are calling "facelifts".

This includes replacing the deck and handrails.

Ramsgate beach access will not be improved because the permitting took too long to process.

At the Walton County Commission meeting on Tuesday, commissioners faced three options: wait until November to renovate the access--with an added cost of $65,000, continue construction through the busy season, or remove the access from renovations within the contract.

"They chose to take that redesign and that facelift away from Ramsgate until next season. So they've now pulled that from the list. Because they've pulled it we're gonna get a credit of $18,000 back from the contractor who was going to do the work," Public Information Manager for Walton County Board of Commissioners Louis Svehla.

People will still have access to the beach through the Ramsgate entrance.
