Fifty million dollars. That's about the total cost of damages and repairs to Gulf Coast State College after Hurricane Michael.

The college's president John Holdnak gave us that number and says contractors have completed about three quarters of the work that needs to be done.

He said 156,000 ceiling tiles and 17,000 sheets of drywall were replaced at the college just in the first two months following the hurricane.

Holdnak adds that almost every employee was displaced from their usual office. But despite some challenges, campus renovations are moving along swiftly.

Holdnak said, "By the time we're done we will have substantially changed the look of the college. We're going to look brand new. We've done a lot of work. We'll get a lot of new roofs, a lot of new drywall. We'll have the same top quality education but we're gonna be a lot shinier looking."

He adds that most of the major construction activities will be over by the end of the summer.
