BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Rutherford High School students had fun while giving back to their community Friday.

The students formed flag football teams and played against each other.

But it was all in good fun. Students had the option of either donating a toy or money - all of which are being donated to Stuff the Bus.

Stuff the Bus's Skip Bondur was there as a guest referee, and he says it's great that kids are helping other kids in their community.

"About one-third of all the toys that we collect each year through Stuff the Bus comes from other kids in the community. It's awe-inspiring to see these kids come together to do something that's so much bigger than just this campus,” said Bondur.

This year, the Turkey Bowl flag football tournament was organized by a student in the International Baccalaureate program.

"It's very important that we give back to the community. We faced a lot of hardship towards the storm, and a lot of kids, we got kicked out of our homes and a lot of kids are misplaced, so we thought it was really important to give back to the community," said Kira Nguyen, sophomore at Rutherford High School.

Decarius Hunter from Spread The Love was also at Rutherford to talk to students Friday.
