PORT ST. JOE, Fla. (WJHG) - It's finally here! Scallop season is opening in Gulf County tomorrow. Jordan McCool was live with the details.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has announced recreational bay scallop season for Gulf County opens Friday, August 16 and will remain open through September 15.
Scallops may be collected by hand or with a landing or dip net. Bag and vessel limits this year are 2 gallons of whole bay scallops in the shell or 1 pint of bay scallop meat per person, with a maximum of 10 gallons of whole bay scallops in the shell or a 1/2 gallon bay scallop meat per vessel.
The FWC urges boaters to be safe when traveling to and from scalloping sites and while scalloping. They say always wear a life jacket and do not drink and boat.
