School leaders look at construction firms for post-Michael projects

BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Bay District Schools leaders are taking steps toward fixing up the district's buildings after Hurricane Michael.

The Bay District School Board is looking at construction firms for projects including reconstruction of schools and the district's transportation center.

The first batch of schools to be looked at includes Margaret K. Lewis, Southport, Hiland Park, Lynn Haven, and Tommy Smith.

This phase of construction also includes a new gym for Jinks Middle School.

The school board approved the ranking order of the construction firms recommended to them.

According to a memorandum, the recommended rankings are as follows:
Group 1 Schools Reconstruction:
1. Childers Construction
2. Core Construction/Reliant South Construction (tie)
3. Allstate Construction

Transportation Department Reconstruction
1. Rippee Construction
2. Reliant South Construction
3. Allstate Construction

Jinks Gym Construction
1. Allstate Construction
2. Reliant South Construction
3. Childers Construction/Rippee Construction (tie)

The next step is to negotiate a Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP).
