Sex offender arrested for selling marijuana, failing to register in Bonifay

BONIFAY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - A sex offender is back in custody after search warrant was served at a Starr Lane residence in Bonifay on Thursday.

Holmes County Sheriff's Office investigators say they searched the home after an investigation showed there were drugs being sold there. During the search, deputies say they saw other residents in the home, including multiple juveniles and Jason Van Avery, 32, a convicted sex offender.

Investigators confirmed that Van Avery had been living at the Starr Lane home for up to six months despite being listed at an address in Caryville through Florida Department of Law Enforcement's sexual offender registration program.

Van Avery is charged with the sale of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, failing to notify law enforcement of change of address, resisting arrest without violence and violation of Bonifay's city ordinance to register as a sex offender.
