JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - A Marianna man is behind bars after an investigation by the Sex Offender Compliance Division of the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, James Adam Peters, 35, fled Marianna in July after a warrant was issued for his arrest. They say their investigation revealed Peters was in the Perry Florida area.

Officials say he was captured in the western panhandle area and extradited back to Jackson County on September 6. On September 15, Peters was charged additionally with two felony counts of failure to register as a sexual offender.

They say Peters also failed to notify the Sheriff's Office when he vacated his residence and failed to report that he had quit his job nine months prior.

Peters is now in the Jackson County Correctional Facility awaiting first appearance.
