ALFORD, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - According to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, a Cottondale man is facing several drug charges after a traffic stop in the Alford area Saturday.
Sheriff's officials said a deputy was on routine patrol when he recognized Michael Barnes, 40, from previous incidents.
They said a check of his information revealed he did not possess a valid driver's license out of Florida due to a suspension.
Deputies also learned he was on state probation house arrest.
The deputy reportedly conducted a traffic stop, where Barnes stopped the vehicle he was driving, exited the vehicle, and put his hands in his pockets.
Officials said Barnes was given several commands to slowly remove his hands from his pockets. After reportedly failing to do so, he was made to sit on the ground where he removed his hands.
The deputy patted down Barnes and found a pill bottle containing several plastic bags containing a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine.
Officials said in a release that a probable cause search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of an "unlabeled pill bottle containing more crystal-like substance, a partially-smoked marijuana cigarette, digital scales, a plastic baggie of suspected marijuana, two plastic baggies containing prescription drugs suspected to be oxycodone and alprazolam, glass smoking pipes with some containing suspected methamphetamine residue, and 15 individually packaged jewelry-style ziplock baggies containing suspected methamphetamine."
They also said Barnes had a large amount of money on him.
Field testing of the substance yielded a presumptive positive result for the presence of meth.
The unpackaged weight of the suspected meth weighed about 57.4 grams.
Sheriff's officials said Barnes was arrested and taken to the Jackson County Correctional Facility to await first appearance.
He faces the following charges:
Trafficking in Methamphetamine 28 grams or over
Possession of Controlled Substance without a Prescription [2 Counts]
Possession of Marijuana less than 20 grams
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia/Narcotics Equipment
Driving While License Suspended/Revoked
Violation of State Probation
