LYNN HAVEN, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - People gathered in Lynn Haven Thursday morning to raise awareness of a disease affecting more than ten percent of the population worldwide.
Concerned citizens came together at Porter Park to learn more about the issues surrounding chronic kidney disease. Vendors set up in the park highlighting their role in the detection and treatment of the disease.
Part of the event was a walk across the old Bailey Bridge to commemorate World Kidney Day. Despite a cool start to the day, people both young and old took part in the walk.
"I'll be 84 years-old but I'm going to give it a try and I told my granddaughter, 'OK, if I don't make it you have to come and get me at the end.' But I'm going to try, I don't give up," Johnnie Mae Dav-Russ said.
World Kidney Day started in 2006 to raise awareness to the increasing prevalence of kidney disease
