Police say Springfield officer-involved shooting was self defense

Police say they responded to a 911 call Thursday night of an intoxicated man threatening to harm himself.
Once Springfield investigator Robert Gay arrived on the scene of Altha Avenue he called for backup.
According to Springfield Police Chief Barry Roberts, after Investigator Gay arrived at the residence on Altha Avenue the suspect, 56-year-old David MacAdams, advanced toward him armed with a knife... then shots were fired.
Roberts said, "The officer arrived and a male advanced him in an aggressive manner armed with a butcher knife. After several orders to drop the weapon and stop his actions he continued toward the officer still and the officer felt his life was in danger and he defended himself."
Locals say it's a calm neighborhood with little police activity. A resident raised on that street, Jessie Willis, says the situation was surreal
"This is kind of a quiet neighborhood. Nothing like that ever happens here. It's just one of them things... couldn't really believe it when you heard it," said Willis.
MacAdams' widow, Georgia MacAdams, says he had a history of medical issues. He used a defibrillator and heart monitor and struggled with mobility and pain.
She also claims he was shot six times although this has not been confirmed by Springfield police.
The situation is currently under investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and investigator Gay is on administrative leave at this time.
