State Road 390 widening project could temporarily use space from middle school parking lot

BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - The widening project for State Road 390 in Bay County could affect operations at one area school, or at least in one of the school's parking lots.

The Florida Department of Transportation is looking to use some of the property at Mowat Middle School during construction.

FDOT will pay to use the teachers' parking lot for construction crews to safely work while widening the road.

The pedestrian bridge to Mowat will also be replaced with a new one in the future.

"It will impact teacher parking in that area, however, that will be temporary over the course of the project, but once we're finished up, that area will go back to the Bay County school district and the middle school," FDOT Spokesperson Ian Satter explained.

Satter said this process is called "temporary construction easement."

A statement from Bay District Schools reads, “No settlement documents have been signed. There has been an offer to settle from FDOT and an acceptance by us. We are now working on an agreement as to the fees and costs so all has not been finalized.”
