JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Eleven Jackson County teenagers have been killed in car accidents in the last seven years.
Tuesday, many juniors and seniors in Jackson County witnessed a mock DUI crash at Marianna High School.
The names of those killed were read out loud.
"I knew some of them personally and to hear those names for the first time in a long time, it was hard," Marianna High School junior Loren Waldron said.
It was a scene that grabbed some students' attention more than a classroom presentation.
"I got in a wreck like last week and it wasn't that bad," Marianna High School junior Jonah Mercer said. "I didn't realize it could get this bad."
The mock crash scene included an ambulance, fire truck, life flight helicopter, and a hearse.
"It was just something I don't want my parents to go through," Waldron said. "It was hard for me."
Alcohol isn't the only killer. Your phone can do just as much damage to you or someone else.
Spring break, prom, and graduation are right around the corner.
Florida Highway Patrol officials said they'll be on the lookout for underage drinkers and people driving under the influence in the coming weeks.
They urge young adults to drive carefully and be aware of their surroundings.
