"That was a dream of mine since I was really, really little," Hermes said. "I think I just had exceptional teachers growing up that made such a difference in my life that I wanted to do the same thing."
Hermes got her start in teaching in Texas before coming to Panama City. She keeps learning fun with engaging activities.
"I think particularly at this age they learn the best by doing," Hermes said. "Kids aren't meant to sit in a seat all the time and not move."
The students are challenged each day, but Hermes makes sure lessons are hands-on and fast paced. Leadership is also a big theme in her classroom.
"Having the self confidence to know that you can be a very important member of society by following the rules is very important but also you can make a difference in people's lives by what you bring to the table," Hermes said.
Setting her students up for success both in and out of the classroom.
