Florida Forest Service now taking applications for Longleaf Pine Private Landowners Incentive Program

Private Landowners of longleaf pine forests north of Lake Okeechobee can now apply for the Longleaf Pine Private Landowner Incentive Program.

SOUTHPORT, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - The Florida Forest Service will now be taking applications for the Longleaf Pine Private Landowners Incentive Program until Friday, August 2, 2019.

The program aims to preserve longleaf pine ecosystems by providing assistance to private landowners with a long-term investment to initiate and maintain the longleaf pine forest.

Longleaf pine forests have been reduced to four percent of their historical range.

With more than two million acres, Florida holds more than half of all longleaf pine forests.

The Longleaf Pine Private Landowners Incentive Program offers incentive payments for the completion of numerous conservation measures.

All counties North of Lake Okeechobee are eligible for the program.
