The Golden Apple Goes to Laura King

BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - With 12 years of teaching under her belt, Laura King is veteran when it comes to education. But this wasn't always her career.

"I had a home daycare for years while my children were small," explained King. "Then when they grew up and were in high school and college I decided, 'I'm going back to school to finish my teaching degree.'"

More than a decade after that decision, King says she still loves going to work every day. "My favorite part of my job is when the light bulb goes on in a child's mind and they get it, they get the answer and they get the concept. It's exciting for the student as well as me."

King says her students like to be challenged and enjoys encouraging them to learn as much as they can.

"She helps us when we need help," said one of her students, Briana. "She always loves when we try our best. My favorite thing about her is that she helps me and I just love her, she's one of the best teachers I have."

Another student, Lincoln, told us his favorite thing about his teacher.

"Every day when I come in she's always smiling. She's always smiling and she's the best third-grade teacher I've had," he said.

Congratulations to Laura King at Northside Elementary.
