BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG) - Heather Piddington has been teaching for nearly a decade. Her husband is in the Air Force, so she's been a second grade teacher in several states and even Japan.
"I've just always enjoyed working with children. I feel like I'm really good at making connections with them and building relationships, and that is really important in the classroom," Piddington said. "Children learn best when they trust their teacher and the feel comfortable in their learning environment."
Piddington keeps her students moving and learning with a lot of small group and hands-on activities.
"One of my favorite things is when you have a struggling student that's having a hard time and then you just see their light bulb go off and you know it's because of what you did," Piddington said. "It's just a really good feeling to know when you helped 20 plus kids a year."
She's been a teacher at Tyndall for three years and says she loves her students.
"They just bring joy to my day, the funny things that second graders say and the stories that they share, yes we are learning about reading, science and social studies, just those other conversations we have throughout the day make me happy, makes me really just enjoy my job," Piddington said.
This Golden Apple winner is helping her students soar to new heights.
