The Golden Apple goes to Olivia Howland of Bay Haven Charter Academy. (WJHG)
"I just love the kids," Howland said.
Olivia Howland was born and raised in Bay County. Her mom and older sister were teachers, so teaching is in her blood.
"My family has been here for generations. I grew up at Lynn Haven Elementary, Mowat Middle School, Mosley High School. I've been here forever," Howland said.
Howland has been a third-grade teacher at Bay Haven for six years. She keeps learning fun with engaging games and activities.
"Instead of just practicing our spelling words we do spelling hangman," Student Evan Ishee said.
"I just try to incorporate stuff like that as much as possible because you could write three times each and that would be just as effective but they wouldn't enjoy that quite as much," Howland said.
Howland's favorite subject to teach is math, but she hopes her students learn a lot more than numbers.
"I really just want to instill kindness in them and making sure that I grow a generation of helpful and kind adults," Howland said.
This Golden Apple Winner is helping her students excel in and out of the classroom.
