Tips for returning or exchanging holiday gifts

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - The holidays teach us it's better to give than receive, but sometimes we do have to return.

Typically the week after Christmas is just as busy as the week before, with stores full of people trying to return or exchange gifts. To avoid getting stuck with an unwanted present, make sure you ask for a gift receipt when buying a present for someone else and the receiver must make sure to hold on to that receipt.

"We try to work with all of our customers," said Jody McKnight, General Manager at JCPenny's. "It is easier if you have a receipt, but if not we do try to take care of all of our customers in the form of in store credit."

"That's stressful," said Shopper David Traxnar. "It is for anyone. I think everybody knows that when you have to go back and do something like that and just having to go through the motions and stuff. It's depressing sometimes and sometimes you just want to get through with it right."

JCPenny's has a pretty relaxed return policy and only charges restocking fees for mattresses. Of course every store is different so it's important to do your research beforehand, and if you really want to be safe when buying a gift, go with a gift card!
