Okaloosa County Sheriff's officials say a driver in Florosa spotted a two-year-old child wearing a diaper walking across Highway 98 alone.

They say the driver spotted the child around 11:30 p.m Friday night.

Officials say a deputy familiar with the neighborhood went to a home where he knew young children lived and found the garage door and interior door open. A man, Micah Adkins, 43, inside claimed: "he had put the toddler in bed and was checking emails and didn’t realize the boy had left."

Officials say Adkins also noted it was the second time this had happened in three days. Adkins said the first time he found the child in a parking lot of a nearby car wash.

Deputies noted Adkins did not take any extra precautions after the first incident. Officials say he was charged with one count of child neglect.
