JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - If Black Friday crowds aren't your thing, there are several nature parks in Jackson County that may have your name written right on them.
One of the hidden jewels of Jackson County is Hinson Park, located just off Highway 73 in Marianna.
"We've got some very pretty waterways," Jackson County Tourist Development Council Executive Director Christy Andreasen said. "We've got plenty of trails, hiking, biking, horseback riding. Plenty of outdoor opportunities to get out and do something different than going shopping on Black Friday."
A popular part of Hinson Park is the Alamo Cave. It's a tunnel cave where people can walk in one side and out the other.
"You can come in here, see the different formations in the limestone, and kinda imagine how this might have been used way back before Marianna was even established," Andreasen said.
With miles of hiking trails, these parks are the perfect place to walk off your Thanksgiving meal.
"We have trails that are going to be for beginners and some that are better for experienced hikers," Andreasen said. "We've got areas that you'll see the beautiful natural surroundings with the changing fall leaves. This is a great way to start a new family tradition."
Several other parks will also be open for the Thanksgiving holiday.
The Florida Caverns State Park will be open both Thursday and Friday, but cave tours will not be available Thanksgiving day.
