BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - A local man is thankful to be alive after escaping his truck which caught on fire on State Road 77 near County Road 2321.

The driver of the truck, Cy Brown, says he was hauling lumber on his truck while driving on State Road 77 when he noticed a burning smell.

Brown said he tried to pull over in a nearby parking lot but then flames arose from the front of his truck. He said he tried to open the driver's door to get out but it was stuck so he escaped through the passenger door. Brown said he ran into a nearby store to escape the blast.

“I was terrified. I was a little scared about what was going on. I pretty much got out the vehicle and ran from there into the store," said Brown.

Florida Highway Patrol officials say they were notified around 3:30 p.m. about the incident and Bay County Fire Officials were already on scene and the fire has been contained.

FHP officials say that there were no injuries or deaths from the fire. Officials also say they do not know what caused the fire but they are investigating.
