UPDATE: Officials say the second child who was shot has died in the hospital. They are still investigating the case.

Two people are dead and another is injured after a shooting in Jackson County, according to sheriff Lou Roberts.

He says Jackson County Sheriff's officials responded to the call in northeast Malone around 5 p.m. Friday.

Sheriff Roberts told NewsChannel 7/Local 18 News that a mother and two children were found shot. Both children are younger than ten years old. He said the mother and one of the children are both dead.

"Right now we're treating it as a crime scene because it's too early to determine manner and cause of death," said Sheriff Roberts.

According to the sheriff, Florida Department of Law Enforcement crime scene investigators are now working on the investigation, as well as Panama City's medical examiner.
