Tyndall AFB welcomed new commander at change of command ceremony Thursday morning
A new commander for NORAD and First Air Force Northern Forces was welcomed aboard at a change of command ceremony held on Tyndall Air Force Base.
Lieutenant General R. Scott Williams, who assumed command in July of 2016, will be retiring after 32 years in the Air Force. At the change of command ceremony, he handed over command to Lieutenant General Marc Sasseville, whose previous assignment was Deputy Director of the Air National Guard in Arlington, Virginia.
In his new job General Sasseville will be responsible for developing and conducting full spectrum U.S. air and space operations in the continental United States, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
"The mission, as I understand it, is operating at 100 percent, all systems are go and it's very easy to walk into a team that's working that well," incoming Commander Lt.General Marc Sasseville said. "I understand that the community has been through challenges lately and we're going to work on that and get back on this task as soon as we can."
Lt.General Sasseville is a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy and a command pilot with over 3,000 hours in the air.
