UPDATE: Vortex Springs drowning victim identified

PONCE DE LEON, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - UPDATE: August 9, 2018 (1:30 p.m.)

Holmes County Sheriff's Deputies have identified the drowning victim as 21-year-old Terril Crossfield. Deputies said Crossfield is from Jamaica but was living in Pensacola.

According to witnesses, officials say Crossfield became distressed and went underwater after helping another swimmer who had become distressed while at Vortex Springs.

Deputies said a diver pulled the victim from the water and CPR was administered until emergency responders arrived.

The Holmes County Sheriff's Office said Crossfield was later pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the Holmes County Sheriff's Office, they are investigating a drowning at Vortex Spring that happened on Wednesday.

They say deputies responded just after 1:30 p.m.

The man's identity has not been released yet, as officials are still working to notify family.
