LYNN HAVEN, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Lynn Haven finally has a new city manager, and she also happens to be the first African American and the first woman to hold the position.

The city commission selected Vickie Gainer Friday. She had been serving as its acting city manager since March.

Gainer said she's happy to follow in the footsteps of others like Leon Miller, the city's first African American city commissioner, and Sharon Sheffield, the city's first African American mayor.

"Whatever color you are, whatever background you come from, everyone has the ability' to excel and reach their goals. This just happened to be one of the really great goals that god has seen fit to place me in," said Gainer.

Gainer is also the only African American or woman currently serving in Bay County as a city manager.
